Entered the Naval School. After World War II, worked in a factory. Joined the army, studied in the Air Force School and served on the Kuril Islands.
Went back to Kiev and decided to work in the theatre. Was accepted into an auxiliary company. In 1955, was invited to work in Leningrad as a film actor.
His first film was The Honeymoon (Lenfilm, 1956). Other films: Andreika (Lenfilm, 1958), The Girl 1 Knew 1962), The Bridegrooms and the Knives (Lenfilm TV Studio, 1964), The Living and the Dead (Mosfilm, 1964), The Brothers Karamazov (Mosfilm, 1969, dir. Ivan Pyriev; Lavrov played Ivan Karamazov), Chaikovskii (Mosfilm, 1970), While Queen To Move (Lenfilm, 1972), The Story of a Heart (Mosfilm, 1975).
Also worked in theatre, first in the Kiev Lesia Ukrainka Drama Theatre. From 1955, acted in the Leningrad Bolshoi Drama Theatre. Moved to Leningrad Gorkii Theatre.
With the Leningrad Gorkii Theatre company which came to the 1987 Edinburgh Festival, playing Doctor Astrov in Uncle Vanya.
