Kishichiro Okura was a Japanese entrepreneur and hotelier.
Background
Kishichiro Okura was born on June 16, 1882. He was a son of Okura Kihachiro (1837-1928) who as an entrepreneur built up the Okura-gumi and founded the giant Okura Zaibatsu (family owned conglomerate) and the Okura Shogyo Gakko which later became Tokyo Keizai University (Tokyo University of Economics) in 1949.
Education
He studied at Trinity College, Cambridge from 1903 to 1906 but he did not graduate from Cambridge University.
Career
Okura became president of Okura Gumi Civil Engineering & Construction Association (1924) and chairman of Okura Mining Company (1943). Elected member of House of Peers (1945). Appointed counselor of Okura Shoji Kaisha (Okura Trading Company), director of Nihon Wireless Communications Company and vice-chairman of Board of Trustees of Nihon Kogyo Kurabu (Japan Industry Club) (1952) and later became chairman of Nihon Wireless Communications Company (1953). Held additional post of honorary chairman of Nihon Ki-in (Japan Shogi Game Institute).
