Kisui Takeshiba was born in 1847 in Tokyo, Japan.
He began his literary career as a writer of kabuki dramas as a disciple of Jisuke Sakurada III, and later of Shinshichi Kawatake II (Mokuami).
In 1888 he made his bow as a dramatist by writing Sengokubune Hokage-no Shirahama, under the name of Shinzo Takeshiba. The play was staged at the Shintomiza Theater in Edo and was declared a success.
He is the author of many kabuki plays, which he first wrote for Sadanji Ichikawa and then for Kikugoro Onoe VI.
