After the death of her husband began taking interest in national affairs and earned for herself the title of Minken Baba (hag of civil rights). She came under the influence of Taisuke Itagaki, after the latter retired over the dispute concerning the invasion of Korea (1874) and began advocating his cause in Awa (Tokushima Prefecture) and Sanuki (Kagawa Prefecture). She was the friend of Hironaka Kono and Mitsurn Toyama.
