Kiyomaru Kawai formed a new religious cult by mixing Shintoism, Buddhism and Confucianism into one, which he named Nihon Kokkyo Daidosha Society (1888) and remained its spiritual head tor 30 years. His society at one time is said to have had 30,000 followers.
