In 1918 he graduated from Kyoto University, and joined the Aoki Research Institute in that year. Subsequently he was appointed assistant professor at Kyoto University, and promoted to full professorship in 1940.
In 1935 he was conferred a doctorate. Specialist in electric engineering, he wrote a thesis on the high frequency heat generation and characteristics of the selenium rectifier.
