Kodo Araki

Background

Kodo Araki was born in1823, Japan. His given name was Hanzaburo. Third son of Kamesaburo, a retainer, of the Minaguchi Clan (Shiga Prefecture).

He was a disciple of Katsugoro Toyoda.

After his master died, he succeeded to his pseudonym of Kodo. He established a new form of Shakuhachi music.
