Koha Takeishi wa born in 1880 in Ibaraki, Japan.
After finishing middle school in Mito in 1903 he left for the United States to learn flying at the Curtis Aviation School, San Diego.
He returned from the USA in 1913 with a pilot's license and brought back a Curtis aircraft, which was donated by Japanese residents in America. Soon after arrival he staged a demonstration flight at the Naruo Race Course and while attempting to land at Kyoto he crashed and died. He was Japan's first victim of the air.
