Currently he is Dean of the Law School at Kanagawa University in Japan. He is known for his contributions to the spread of human rights in Japan. Kohki Abe obtained his doctoral degree from Waseda University in Japan.
Subsequently, he obtained an Master of Laws from the University of Virginia School of Law and was a visiting professor at the Centre for Refugee Studies in York University, Canada.
As of July, 2008 he is Dean of the law school at Kanagawa University in Yokohama, Japan, where he teaches international law, human rights and refugee law. He also is president of the Tokyo-based non-governmental organization Human Rights Now.
He is a board member of both the Japanese Society of International Human Rights Law, and the Japanese Civil Liberties Union.
