Attended 2nd Moscow High-School. 1919 graduate Higher Military Automobile and Armor School. 1925 graduate Red Army Military Academy.
July 1917 quit 8th grade at 2nd Moscow High-School and volunteered for Russian Army. Served as a gunner with a heavy artillery field battalion. June 1918 volunteered for Red Army.
Served with a special artillery battalion on Northern Front. From 1919 artillery officer in the “Raskol’nikov” armored train, Western Front. 1921 commander, armored train Number 35, Caucasian Front.
1921-1922 inspector, Armor Parts Board, Separate Red-Banner Caucasian Army. 1925-1929 inspector. Red Army armored forces. 1929-1931 deputy commander, Red Army Mechanization Board.
A mechanized corps was named after him. After his death he became an unperson and his name was expunged from all encyclopedias and military textbooks published from 1937 to 1956.
