1904-1917 toured with Theater Company, Ltd. After Revolution acted in Putilov Factory Theater, with Red Theater Company and at Builders’ Theater, Leningrad. 1928-1936 with Bolshoy Drama Theater, now Bolshoy Gorky Drama Theater.
1951-1958 Director, Leningrad Pushkin Drama Theater. Best-known stage roles: Shvanda in Trenev’s “Lyubov Yarovaya”. Godun in Lavrenev’s “Razlom” (The Breakdown).
Tortsov in Ostrovsky’s “Bednost ne porok” (Poverty is no Crime). Dostigaev and Luka in Gorky's “Yegor Bulychev i drugie” (Yegor Bulychev and the Others) and “Na dne” (The Lower Depths). Buckingham in Shakespeare's “Richard III”.
Title roles in “Polkovodets Suvorov” (General Suvorov) by Bakhterev and Razumovsky, and in “Lenin” by Kapler and Zlatogorova. Main film roles: Pugachev (1936-1937). Fedor Parash in “Otchetnye gody” (Current Years) (1939).
