1930 graduated Leningrad Mining Institute as geological engineer. 1956 completed correspondence course, Leningrad Thcol. Academy, as Candidate of Theol.
Since 1960 has encouraged links between Moscow Patriarchate and German Evangelical Lutheran Church. Worked on establishment of new parishes of Moscow Exarchate in German Federal Republic in order to bring Orth, emigrfe community under jurisdiction of Moscow Patriarchate. 1960 attended two conferences of European churches in Niborg, Denmark.
Since 1961 member, District Peace Council, Potsdam. 1936 became monk under name of Ioann and was ordained priest-monk. 1946-1953 Seer, to Archbishop of Tashkent.
1950 ordained Archimandrite. 1953-1957 Dean, Saratov Cathedral. 1957-1958 Rector, Saratov Theol.
Seminary; 1958-1960 representative of Moscow Patriarchate to Patriarch of Antioch and All the East.
