Koroku III was born in Osaka. Was given the name of Hinasuke Arashi I by Danjiird Ichikawa II. He started as a female impersonator but later played romantic male parts also. A very popular actor, he succeeded to the name of Koroku in 1794.
Koroku IV was a celebrated female impersonator in the Bunka and Bunsei Eras. He was as popular in Kansai district as Hanshiro Iwai, the great female impersonator, was in Yedo. Succeeded to the name of Koroku in 1817.
