Koshiro Matsumoto was born in 1870 in Tokyo, Japan.
After succeeding to title of Komazo Matsumoto IX, became a leading actor of Kabuki Theater, then of Imperial Theater. Succeeded to title Koshiro Matsumoto VII in 1911, head of Fujima-ryu school of dancing in 1917. He was elected member of Art Academy in 1946. His most famous role was that of Benkei in Kanjincho.
