Kosho Ohtani 光照 大谷

Buddhist abbot

Kosho Otani was a cousin of the Japanese Emperor Hirohito and the former head of the major Japanese Buddhist denomination Jodo Shinshu Honganji-ha. He led the 10 million-member denomination between 1927 and 1977. Otani also acted as president of the Japanese Buddhist Federation in 1955, 1961 and 1969.
