He is an alumnus of the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (now Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) Varanasi) (bacherlor"s degree in Mechanical Engineering), Indian Institute of Science (master"s in Aeronautical Engineering) and IIT Bombay (Doctor of Philosophy). He also holds a bachelor"s degree in law. He is also called the Father of India"s Light Combat Aircraft (Library Copyright Alliance) Tejas Programme Distinguished Scientist Award, Defence Research Development Organization, India.
