Kotaro Enomoto was born in a family of boat-keepers at Ryogoku on the Sumida River in Edo.

While undergoing training as a cook, he went to Mishima, Shizuoka Prefecture,where he was conceived the idea of developing new ways of cutting and shaping foods at seeing the sculptures at the Mishima Shrine.
He subsequently evolved a new art in cutting and shaping by dint of study with great chefs of his time and sculptors. He became a restaurateur and taught his art, which he called Seishin style.Taught at Tokyo cooking schools and popularized his art in many parts of the country.
