He graduated from Tokyo Academy of Fine Arts in 1931.
He came into prominence when his works were accepted by the Ministry of Education for its 5th Art Exhibition (1942). Since then his works are admitted without having, to be prejudged. Shortly after World War II, his works began appearing at the art exhibitions staged by Japan Academy of Arts, of which he was appointed a judge (1950). One of his noted works, a sculpture of a mother and her children, stands in front of Ueno Station.
