Kristofer Hivju is a Norwegian actor who is best known for his appearance in HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” He has mostly stared in Norwegian and Scandinavian movies and shows and owes his commercial success to this show. It has introduced him to a much wider array of audiences. He plays one of the leaders of the wildlings, Tormund Giantsbane. Kristofer is also a producer and also finds time to write as well.

Background

Kristofer was born on December 7, 1978, in Oslo, Norway. He is the son of Norwegian actors Erik Hivju and Lieselotte Holmene and the cousin of French actress Isabelle Nanty.

Education

From the beginning of his childhood, Kristofer Hivju had a keen interest in acting and began to learn from a very early age. In 2004, he graduated from the Danish subdivision of the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts.

Career

Kristofer began his acting career as Jim Olsen in the 2001 series Fox Gronland. Later, he also appeared in a couple of TV series such as Melonas, Six Like Us, Largest of All, and few more. In 2008, he made his film debut in 2008 movie Rovdyr followed by The Thing in 2011. Back in 2013, he appeared as a Security Chief in Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith production After Earth. Later in 2014, the Norwegian actor has also starred in several movies such as In Order of Disappearance, Force Majeure, Operation Arctic, and The World Is Waiting.

In Game of Thrones, he plays Tormund Giantsbane. He initially appeared as a guest star in the third season and returned to the role in seasons four, five, and six as part of the starring cast. The role was announced in May 2012 and Hivju was confirmed in the role in July 2012 at the San Diego Comic-Con casting reveals.

Recently, he has also played in 2016 film The Last King and 2017 hit venture The Fate of the Furious along with Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, and Tyrese Gibson. Furthermore, he has been featuring in the series since 2013 as Tormund Giantsbane. Recently, he has also appeared in a couple of TV series which include The Lion Guard and Beck-Steinar.

Kristofer Hivju prefers training outdoors. Taking the example of the character Rocky Balboa from the film Rocky IV (1985), Kristofer stated that for his role as the wilding leader in the Games of Thrones, he followed a similar workout method. He prefers training in harsher conditions that challenge his physical endurance.
