Yamada Kumao graduated from Meiji University, the Law Department.
Following his graduation from the Department of Law of Meiji University, Yamada Kumao entered the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Company in 1928. Then he successively became head of Engineering Department (1937), assistant to the director of General Affairs Department, Director of Sales Department (1940), Chief of General Affairs Department (1943), director (1945) and representative managing director (1947). In 1949, with the establishment of Mitsubishi Industrial Company (the second Mitsubishi Company), Yamada Kumao assumed the post of its managing director. In 1950, he became president of Sanki Industrial Company.
