Kunitsuna Awadaguchi was born in 1163. He was a sixth son of Kuniie.
He followed Emperor Gotoba to Oki Island where the emperor was exiled, and became bankaji, or the emperor’s swordsmith. After the emperor died, he returned to Kamakura and made the famous Onimaru, one of the most prized swords in Japan, for Shilcken (Prime Minister of the Sho,gunate) Toki- yori Ho jo.
