Kuniyoshi Obara was born to a Samurai family on 8 April 1887 in the Kagoshima Prefecture of Japan, in a village called Kushi, Obara was the grandson of a famous educator. He was adopted into the Ajisaka family in his early childhood after the death of his parents.
Career
He was appointed professor at Hiroshima Higher Normal School where he started introducing educational reforms. Was appointed director of Seikei Elementary School, founded by Dr. Masataro Sawayanagi (1919).
Later he founded Seikei Higher School (1926) and Tarnagawa Gakuen (1929), and Tamagawa College (1946). Made two visits abroad to study educational facilities there (1930 and 1940).
Kuniyoshi Obara was conferred a doctorate, Ph.D. by Ontario State University, Canada. Among his works are "Facts of Free Education" and "Building a Nation Through Education."
In the last months of his life, Obara was diagnosed with disease of the pancreas and hospitalized. He died on 13 December 1977.
Kuniyoshi Obara converted to Christianity in his early adulthood and remained a devout Christian throughout his life.
