While in elementary school, joined a traveling troupe.
At the age of 16, he organized his own drama troupe, and gradually gained fame and power.
Became adviser to the Shochiku Drama Department in 1936, and later president of the Fuji Entertainment Company and of the Heiwa Entertainment Company.
Became president of the Gajoen Restaurant in 1948 and of the Sentochi Entertainment Company in 1954.
Established the Nichiei Motion Picture Company in 1957.
