Kuno Gonschior was born on September 10, 1933 in Wanne-Eickel, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany (present-day Herne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany).
Since 1957 to 1961, Kuno attended Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where he studied painting. He decided to continue his studies and after graduation from Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in 1961, the painter enrolled at the University of Cologne, where he studied till 1963.
During the 1960s, Kuno Gonschior created paintings out of characteristic dots placed next to each other, combining fluorescent, complementary colours, such as red and green. Since 1968, he started to create coloured multi-room installations.
In 1972, Kuno started to work as a lecturer at the Pädagogische Hochschule Münster. In 1977, the artist participated in the documenta 6 in Kassel. During the period from 1982 to 2000, he held a post of a professor of painting at Berlin University of the Arts.
During his lifetime, the painter also exhibited his works in the United States and Japan.
