Kutikuppala Surya Rao

Education

Rao did his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from Andhra Medical College,Doctor of Medicine family medicine at the post graduate Institute of Medicine University of Colombo, doctoral fellowship in Human Immunodeficiency Virus medicine from Christian Medical College, VelloreMNAMS from National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He got his Doctor of Philosophy on "Ethical challenges involved in the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome" at Andhra University. He is fellow of the Royal College of Physicians–London.

Rao has spent most of his medical career in clinical research associated with Human Immunodeficiency Virus /Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome disease.

Career

He hails from a village named Kintali, located in the Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, India.

Achievements

• Guinness World Record holder in Human Immunodeficiency Virus prevention research work for achieving the largest awareness Red Ribbon. Padam Shri by Government of India In recognition of his distinguished contribution to society. The World Health Organisation award in 1989. Rao has been chosen for Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Samman Award, a rare honour that was presented at the British House of Lords, on September 21, 2015 by Rt Honorable Baroness verma Minister of International development United Kingdom, also, the Mahatma Gandhi gold medal was given by Alain Saint Ange Minister of Tourism Government of Seychell at the Global Indian Summit. Rao had served as an executive council member of Andhra University and vice-chairman of the January Shikshan Sansthan and a national committee member of the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome Control Organisation. He published several research papers in the World renowned medical journals like BMJ, Applied Medicine, Antiseptic, Indian Practitioner, JIMA et cetera, and 390 articles in many journals of National and International repute.

Membership

Rao had served as an executive council member of Andhra University and vice-chairman of the January Shikshan Sansthan and a national committee member of the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome Control Organisation.
