PODLAS, Kuz’ma was born on October 29, 1893 in village Dushatino, Bryansk Province. Son of a peasant.
From 1918 in Red Army. Fought in Civil War; after Civil War various commands. During Yczhov purges arrested by People’s Commissariat of Internal Affairs and imprisoned.
Later rehabilitated and released. 1941-1942 commander, 40lh, then 57th Army, Southwestern Front. 1941 helped defend Kiev and May 1942 participated in the unsuccessful Khar’kov offensive.

The emphasis on peaceful coexistence doesn’t mean that the Soviet Union accepted a static world with clear lines. Socialism is inevitable and the "correlations of forces" were moving towards socialism.
