Kyuen Kawasaki

Background

Kyuen was born in 1874, in Matsuyama, Japan, the eldest son of Morihe Kawasaki and originally named Rikichi Kawasaki.

Education

Learned the fundamentals of the Kita school of Noh recitation and drum playing and then became a pupil of Mataki Tsumura of the Kadono school at Tokyo (1899).

Career

After his master's death he took over and did much to revive interest in Noh. The Kadono school owes its prosperity to him.
