Background
Kyutaro Takahashi was born in 1858 Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. His family was for generations kendo instructor for the Sakai family of the Himeji Clan.

Career
He practiced kendo at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Board. Teached his pupil in the Mugairyu school of kendo. He was raised to the rank, of hanshi (model instructor) (August 1919).
