Lakshmipati Misra got Bachelor of Science at Agra University (now Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University), then at Roorkee University (now Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee) in 1910, and, in 1959, he became Doctor of Engineering (Honorary).
Lakshmipati Misra joined Indian State Railway in 1911. He studied tour of Europe to see Divisional Organization of Railways during 1927-1928.

He also belonged to Calcutta Club.
