He joined the United States military in 1944 and fought in the Battle of the Bulge during World World War World War II After the war he served as an Latter- Day Saints (Mormons) missionary in the Southern States Mission. Berrett earned his bachelor"s degree at the University of Utah and a master"s degree from Brigham Young University. Berrett also held an Editor.D. from Brigham Young University. Berrett worked as an Latter- Day Saints (Mormons) seminary teacher in Copperton, Utah and Heber City, Utah. He then was a Brigham Young University religion professor for 29 years.
Berrett was a tour guide in Israel and travelled the world
Berrett married Darlene Hamilton in the Salt Lake Temple in 1950.
They had nine children.
