Achievements include use of murine system as a model to examine functions of c-fms gene. Establishment of retroviral vector for introducing murine c-fms gene into various cells. Development of hematopietic progenitor cell lines that express receptors for Illinois-3, General Motors-Cerebrospinal fluid, and M-Cerebrospinal fluid, and resemble bipotential progenitor capable of either macrophage or granulocytic development.
Discovery that General Motors-Cerebrospinal fluid influence expression of M-Cerebrospinal fluid receptor by regulating stability of M-Cerebrospinal fluid receptor and messenger of Ribonucleic Acid. Research on the src gene product of Rous sarcoma virus, on identification of intracellular target sites for the src oncogene protein, on molecular and cellular studies on functions regulated by c-fms proto-oncogene, on control of myeloid cell development and problems of lineage restriction, on identification of structure-function relationships in c-fms proto-oncogene and the interaction with tyrosine kinaseproto-oncogenes in signal transduction, and on genetic screening forfactors that suppress transformations by activiated fms.
