Bencs, László was born on March 3, 1968 in Budapest, Hungary.

Career

Research assistant at the Research Laboratory for Crystal Physics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS), Budapest, Hungary, 1992-1998. Visiting postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Chemistry, University Antwerp, Belgium, 2001-2003 (1.5 years), 2004-2007 (4-times 3 months), 2008-2011 (32 months). Research fellow at the Research Institute for Solid State Physics and Optics of the HAS, Budapest, Hungary, 1998-2011. Senior researcher at Wigner Research Centre for Physics of the HAS, 2012-2019. Scientific advisor at Wigner Research Centre for Physics of the HAS, 2019-present.

Achievements

• Achievements include in development and study on solid and solution introduction based spectrochemical methods to determine main component, dopant and impurity content in optical quality crystals. Studies in chemical separation methods to purify metal oxides used as raw materials for the growth of high-purity, optical crystals.
  
  Investigations in vapor transport models in graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry to evaluate the sensitivity of the methods for various elements. Research in characterization of fine outdoor aerosols by applying various sampling techniques and analytical methods (IC, XRF, EPMA, HPLC, GC-MS).
  
  Research in analytical chemical methods used to determine platinum group elements originating from automotive catalytic converters in environmental samples.
  
  Research in evaluating the effects of various heating systems on indoor air quality changes in terms of gaseous and aerosol pollutant depositions in churches with the primary focus on the preventive conservation of artworks.
  
  Studies on coastal eutropication phenomena triggered by anthropogenic air pollutants (gaseous/aerosol) over marine areas via wet and dry deposition of N-compounds over the North Sea. Research on evaluation of atmospheric pollution caused by tailpipe emissions of ocean-going ships over the Southern North Sea.
