Laura Denham's early years were spent in exotic locations in Jamaica, Jordan, and the Isle of Wight. She graduated from college in the United States.
Laura Denham, after her studies, resided in San Francisco, California, and began her writing career. In her debut novel, Have You Seen Me?, Denham chronicles the degeneration and eventual salvation of Juliet, the daughter of intellectual 1960s hippies. Raised by her father after the death of her British mother, after graduation from college, Juliet settles in San Francisco. But instead of pursuing a traditional career, Juliet becomes involved in the sex industry, dancing at a strip club, modeling for pornographic photographs, acting in adult movies, and eventually turning to prostitution.
In this book, Denham has a surprisingly assured, captivating voice. She avoids the pitfalls of this potentially lurid subject matter, offering a thoughtful exploration of the effect of the 1960s counterculture on another generation of lost youth. It is a novel about the uncertainty and loneliness of the human soul.
Denham is also known as a contributor to periodicals, including the San Francisco Bay Guardian, South Dakota Review, Phoebe, Short Story Quarterly, Salon.com, and Beloit Fiction Journal.
