University of Groningen
Laura Klein was born in 1950. Her documented education and professional career both developed in the Netherlands, through the University of Groningen and the Amsterdam law firm Stibbe, Blaisse & De Jong.
Klein is documented as a graduate of the University of Groningen in 1972. The university was founded in 1614 on the initiative of the council of the province of Groningen and the Ommelanden, and it is the second-oldest university in the Netherlands after Leiden. It began with six professors in the faculties of law, medicine, philosophy and theology.
In 1876 the Higher Education Act renamed the institution Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, a name that translates as State University. By the time of Klein's studies, the university therefore operated as a state institution within the Dutch national system of universities.
Klein's documented professional career is connected with the Amsterdam partnership Stibbe, Blaisse & De Jong, where she was a partner. The firm traces its origins to 1911, when a law office was founded in the historic centre of Amsterdam. The Amsterdam practice later moved to the city's southern business district.
In 1991 the Amsterdam firm merged with Simont & Simont in Brussels, forming Stibbe & Simont. After a 1993 merger with the Paris-based Monahan & Duhot, the firm was renamed Stibbe Simont Monahan Duhot, and it later adopted the simpler name Stibbe. Today the firm has its main offices in Amsterdam, Brussels and Luxembourg, with a branch office in London.
