This novella, inspired by true events, recounts a rather sadistic, pass/fail performance test given to writers at the refinery of a giant oil company. It illustrates how far astray from the actual operations of a business a training department can go when it is not properly supervised and asks the question of how much loyalty one owes one's employer. One of the author's purposes in writing this story was to alert job seekers to exercise caution in answering classified ads, no matter how respectable the employer's credentials might appear.
