President University Medical Society and Resident Surgeon Western Infirmary, 1879. Entered Indian Medical Service 1880. Professor of Chemistry and Pathology, Medical College, Calcutta, for six years.
Sanitary Commissioner for ten years camping over the ancient “ Holy Land ” of Buddhism, where he discovered many important sites. Has travelled in Burma, China, Japan, North America, and the Himalayas and Tibet. Served Burmali, 1886-S7 (medal with clasp).
Chitral Relief Force, 1895 (medal with clasp). China, including Relief of Peking, 1900 (despatches, Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire, and medal with clasp). Mahsud-Waziri Blockade, 1901-1902 (clasp).
