Brown played his early career with Darlington, Woking and Bishop Auckland before turning professional after the 1960 Olympics. Professional career
Brown played 109 times for Arsenal between 1961 and 1964. In February 1964 he was the subject of a controversial ₤40,000 move to North London rivals Tottenham.
While Arsenal had used him as a central defender (centre-half), at Tottenham he was played in attack, replacing centre forward Bobby Smith.
The gamble did not pay off, and Brown was dropped after nine matches. The following season, he re-appeared at centre half, where he remained until Tottenham bought Mike England to replace him.
Soon after, Laurie Brown joined Norwich City. International career
Brown died in September 1998.
