In March 2015, Toet made headlines for sending out a constituency mailout on Bill C-51 that presented a false dichotomy of either supporting additional measures to combat terrorism or believing that "terrorists are victims too."
Toet was defeated by NDP candidate Daniel Blaikie by less than 100 votes.
