(Infections of the skin have become significantly more imp...)
Infections of the skin have become significantly more important with the rapidity of world travel, the emergence of new pathogenic organisms or strains, and the increased incidence of immunocompromised patients. This atlas will illustrate cutaneous disease due to bacteria, rickettsiae, viruses, fungi and parasites. While emphasis will be placed upon the more common entities encountered by clinicians in the Western World, appropriate attention will be given to newer diseases that might be encountered in travelers to or emigrants from less developed areas of the world. Each chapter will give an overview of the pathogenic agent and the clinical problems it causes. Colour photographs will amplify the concepts set forth by the accompanying brief text. Suggested readings will also be included
