The Language of Composition is the first textbook built from the ground up to help students succeed in the AP English Language course. Written by a team of experts with experience in both high school and college, this text focuses on teaching students the skills they need to read, write, and think at the college level. With practical advice and an extensive selection of readings — including essays, poetry, fiction, and visual texts — The Language of Composition helps students develop the key skills they must master to pass the course, to succeed on the AP Exam, and to prepare for a successful college career. Revised based on feedback from teachers across the country, the second edition promises to be an even better resource for the AP Language classroom.

Author: (with C. W. Haley) The Theory of Financial Decisions, 1972, second edition, 1979, Introduction to Financial Management, 1977, 6th edition, 1991, (with K. Henderson and R. May) Evaluating Business Ventures, 1982. Contributor articles to professional journals.
Early work focussed on financial economics, welfare theory, and urban economics. My first book, The Theory of Financial Decisions (with C.W. Haley), appeared in the early 1970s and was an advanced text on financial theory. It was intended as a comprehensive presentation of the major concepts in the area.
Since the mid-70s, my research and publications have, with few exceptions, centred on financial economics topics, including valuation, corporate financial planning (mergers, leasing, investment and financing analysis, etc.), and taxes. In recent years, I have also pursued an interest in the uses of computers in financial analysis.
Member American Economic Association, American Finance Association, Finance Management Association.
Married Betty Jane Kay, August 6, 1982. Children: Michael Kay, Adam Kent.
