Reifsnider, Lawrence Fairfax was born on November 26, 1887 in Westminster, Maryland, United States. Son of John Milton and Eleanor Fisher (Reese) Reifsnider.


Student Western Maryland. College, Westminster. Graduated from Nava Academy, 1910.

Graduate Submarine School, New London, Connecticut, 1917, and qualified to command submarines. Graduate senior course Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island, 1936.


Louise (wife of Glover T. Ferguson, United States Navy). Commissioned ensign 1912, advanced through grades to rear admiral, 1943. Served in varoius types of ships and on shore in Navy Department.

Chief 1st United States Navy Mission to Colombia, 1939-1941. Commanded 8th Naval District and commander Gulf Sea Frontier, since 1947. Participated in amphibious operations World World War II: in command Transport Group, Guadalcanal, 1942.

Tactical commanded transports Bougainville landing, 1943. Attack group commander seizure of Emirau, 1944. Commander of an attack group during assault and capture of Guam, 1944.

Commander of an attack force during assault on Okinawa, 1945. Attack group commander for capture of Ie Shima, 1945. Attack group commander for seizure of Iheya Shima and Aguni Shima, 1945.
