Career
Fought in World War 1 in Austro-Hungarian Army. 1916 captured by Russians. From 1918 in Red Army.
1918-1921 commanded detachment, battalion, regt and brigade. After Civil War chief inspector of general military training, Ukraine Military district. Commander, Kiev Fortified district.
Kiev Province Military Commissar. 1924-1925 worked for Communist International. 1926-1930 Soviet consul-general in China.
Commander and comissar, 50th Infantry Division. 1936-1937 commanded 22nd Infantry Division, Special Red Banner Far Eastern Army. Commandant, fortified distribution
During World War 1 sentenced to execution for anti-war propaganda. Sentence commuted to assignment to the front. 1917-1918 helped found Red Guard and international units among prisoners-of-war.
1919-1920 repeatedly distinguished himself in battles against Denikin’s and Petlyura’s troops and on Polish Front. 1937 arrested by People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs.
