Lázaro Blanco Fuentes studied architecture and physics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (1958-1963). He also attended Michigan State University, East Lansing (1967) and State University of New York (1971).
Since 1964 Lázaro Blanco Fuentes had been a science instructor and chairman of the Science Department at American School Foundation, Mexico City. He also taught at the Photography Workshops, Casa del Lago, National Autonomous University of Mexico, which he initiated in 1973. He served as an adviser on photography to Museo Carillo Gil of the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura in Mexico in 1978, and he taught mathematics and physics at various schools in Mexico City in 1963.
