In 1979 he became an All American honorable mention, and in 1980 he made the first team for All American Lacrosse. Now he is a Football, Wrestling, Ski and lacrosse coach at The Asheville School in North Carolina. Haller also competed in two Summer Olympics, earning his best finish of fourth in the C-2 event in Barcelona in 1992.
In 1996 he was ranked Number 1 in the world for men"s C-2.
He won four medals at the International Coach Federation Canoe Slalom World Championships with a gold (C-2: 1983), two silvers (C-2: 1987, C-2 team: 1983) and a bronze (C-2 team: 1985). He is a 15-time National Champion, nine-time World Cup medalist, and two-time Olympian. In 1988 he won the inaugural overall World Cup title in the C-2 category partnering Jamie McEwan.
