Hongbin was born and raised in Jayang-dong, Seoul, South of Korea.

Hongbin studied Musical major at Dong-ah Broadcasting College.
Hongbin debuted as a vocalist of the South Korean boy group VIXX in May 2012, and began his acting career in 2014 in Business School"s romantic drama Glorious Day as Yoo Ji-house 2012-2013: Debut with VIXX
Hongbin was one of ten trainees who were contestants in Mnet"s survival reality show MyDOL and was chosen to be apart of the final line-up and the 6-member boy group finally debuted with "Super Hero" on May 24, 2012 on M! Countdown. During MyDOL; Hongbin was featured in Brian Joo"s "Let This Die" and Seo In-guk"s "Shake lieutenant Up" and "Tease Maine" music videos.
The "Tease Maine" music video was shot alongside actress Son Eun-seo.
In 2013, Hongbin appeared in episode 4 of Business School"s television drama The Heirs alongside his group members. 2014-2015: Acting debut and Military Cross-ing
In 2014, Hongbin was cast in his first television drama in a supporting role as Yoo Ji-ho alongside Rainbow"s Go Woo-ri in Business School"s Glorious Day. in the same year Hongbin and North appeared as backup dancers in K.Will, Mamamoo and Wheesung"s "Peppermint Chocolate" music video.
On March 3, 2015, Hongbin joined T-ara"s Jiyeon and Super Junior-M"s Zhou Mi as Military Cross on Business School Music Television"s The Show. In September 2015, Hongbin was cast in his first lead role as Wang Chi-ang in KBS2’s action-romance drama Moorim School.
2016–present: Moorim School drama lead, Moorim School OST
Moorim School began airing on KBS2 from January 11, 2016.
In the drama Hongbin plays the troublemaker Wang Chi-ang alongside actor Lee Hyun-woo. On January 18, 2016 VIXX released their first original soundtrack recording for the fantasy action-romance drama Moorim School with the song “Alive” the drama’s main theme song, released in Moorim School OST Participant. 1. Viewers of the drama have shown positive responses to the refreshingly edgy theme song.
lieutenant was revealed that VIXX hoped to express their support for Hongbin’s first drama lead role as the troublemaker Wang Chi-ang by contributing to the soundtrack.
On February 1, 2016, Moorim School OST Participant. 2 was released with the title song "The King" by VIXX.
