Career
She is a former Minister of Arts & Culture serving in the cabinet of Paul Berenger for a short period of 6 months. She firstly served in the cabinet of Sir Anerood Jugnauth. She is along with Nando Bodha and Showkatally Soodhun to form the front bench of the Master of Science in Management in the Ptr-Master of Science in Management-PMSD coalition government.
She is an Educator by profession.
She is well known for being a highly renowned Biology Teacher in the country. Leela Devi Dookhun Luchoomun has a rich political career.
In 1996, she joined the Militant Socialist Movement and took part in the municipal elections of Vacoas-Phoenix, then stood as candidate in Constituency Number 15, Louisiana Caverne & Phoenix in 2000. In 2005, the Master of Science in Management/MMM coalition lost to Social Alliance and she was elected 3rd Member of Parliament for the same constituency but serving in the opposition.
She holds a Bachelor of Science Honours from the University of Delhi and completed her Postgraduate Certificate in Education at the MIE and her Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDip) from the University of Brighton.
She is also a Participant-time lecturer at the Mauritius Institute of Education.
