Private practice dentistry, Muskegon, Michigan, 1912-1914. Entered Dental corpus, United States army, as contract dentist, 1914. Commissioned First lieutenant, 1916, advanced through grades to brigadier general, 1938 (first dental officer of the United States Army to be raised to grade of general).

Brigadier general assistant, surgeon general, 1938. Retired, in grade in 1942.
