LAGORIO, Lelio was born on November 9, 1925 in Trieste, Italy.


Vice President Province of Florence. 1960-1964; Deputy Mayor, and Mayor of Florence, 1965-1969. President Regional Body, Tuscany, 1970-1978.

Provincial and Regional Sec, Partito Socialista Italiano (Italian Socialist Party). Member National Leadership, Partito Socialista Italiano (Italian Socialist Party) from 1970: in charge of Partito Socialista Italiano (Italian Socialist Party) policy on Justice, Public Order and Defence. Activist during the Resistance and collaborated with Committee of National Liberation of the Mining Hills of Tuscany.

Deputy, Florence-Pistoia. 1979; re-elected Deputy, 1983. Minister for Defence in 2nd Cossiga government, 1980-1983.

And in Forlani government, 1st and 2nd Spadolim government, and in 5th Fanfani government. Minister for Tourism and Entertainment. 1983-1986, in 1st Craxi government.

Left Parliament to assume Presidency of the Parliamentary Group of Partito Socialista Italiano (Italian Socialist Party) in Chamber of Deputies. Re-elected Deputy, 1987. President of Committee on Defence.

1987-1989; Member European Parliament and Vice Chairman of the Socialist Group, since 1989. Lawyer, Journalist; Assistant Professor of Civil Court Law, University of Florence. Founder of and directed, 'città e Regione’, magazine of culture, politics and history Editor of monthly 'Italia internazionale' (foreign and military politics).
