The origins of the firm date back to the 1890"s, before the Province of Alberta came into existence, to the Calgary law practice of Sir James Lougheed and Rifle Brigade Bennett. The practice was reorganized in 1922 with Rifle Brigade Bennett (later Prime Minister of Canada, from 1930 to 1935), Alexander Hannah and P.L. Sanford as partners.
