Léo Delibes was born on February 21, 1836 at Saint-Germain-du-Val, La Flèche, France.
Léo studied at the Paris Conservatory, and held the positions of accompanist at theTheatre-Lyrique and second chorus master of the Opera.
In 1881 Delibes became a professor of composition at the Conservatory. His first success was a ballet, La Source. His other works include the operas Le Roi l'a dit and Lakme, and the ballet Sylvia.
